Children in Worship
Nursery Care is offered during worship for children from birth through four years of age. Children may be dropped off in the nursery, located just outside the Sanctuary. A Youth Information Form must be on file for each child left in the nursery. Once the form is on file, it is a simple matter of signing a child in and out.
Our nursery is supervised by both staff and volunteers. Currently, Nursery volunteers are scheduled quarterly. If you would like to be added to the list of volunteers, please call the church office (784-2322) and someone will contact you.
Worship Workshop is offered during worship for pre-school through fourth grade students. The children sit in worship with their families. They are then dismissed to the downstairs classroom with their teachers following the “Moment for Young Disciples”. They are returned to the service during the last hymn.
Our teachers are volunteers. We use a curriculum from www.sermons4kids.com. These generally follow our lectionary calendar, so the children learn the same things downstairs that the adults are learning upstairs. This enables our families to be able to discuss their worship experiences a bit more.
Parents are expected to fill out a Youth Information Form for children who participate in Junior Church. They are also expected to pick their child(ren) up following worship from the Junior Church classroom.
Children in the third grade and older are encouraged to assist in worship by becoming trained acolytes. The training is offered each fall. Acolytes light the candles at the beginning of worship and extinguish and carry out the flame at the end of worship each Sunday. They are also asked to help with special events, like lighting candles during the Christmas Eve service.
