Mission is central to all activities at First Presbyterian Church. Within this overall context the Mission Ministry has a clearly defined role with responsibilities in the following areas: development and administration of the benevolence budget, fund raising for benevolence purposes, liaison with recipients of benevolence funds, and coordination of occasional mission activities.
First Presbyterian in recent years has budgeted nearly $40,000 annually to support local, national, and international programs and organizations. To supplement the budget, we have organized fund-raising annual campaigns for:
Funds raised have been applied to various hunger programs, minority schools and colleges, and aid to retired church workers. Local recipients of portions of these funds have included the Salvation Army, Agape, and the Food Cupboard at Winona.
Participation in the Mission Ministry is a way in which members can learn more about the work of the larger church locally and throughout the world, yet most importantly, the ministry offers opportunities to serve.
